WORLD CUP EXPANDS REP COVERAGE
The World Cup Blue Marlin Championship (World Cup) has announced several new representatives for it's Fourth Of July, 2008 tournament. The World Cup is entering it's 25th year. Blue marlin over 500 pounds are the only species that count in this world wide event. There is no second place in the unique winner take all competition. The payout to one winner last July was $343,000.
Recently named representatives for the World Cup include Jimmy Taylor, representing the US Gulf Coast; Captain Berno Niebuhr for the Cape Verde Islands; Dan Jacobs for Bermuda; Duarte Moreira Rato for Bom Bom Island Resort on the island of Principe; Jose Ribeiro on the island of Madeira; Dr Iain Nicolson representing Angola and Augusto Figueira representing Portugal.
Kathy Bakke will continue representing Kona and the Big Island of Hawaii and Jimmy Loveland remains as the Virgin Islands representative.
Tournament Director, Mike Leech and Assistant Director, Lynda Wilson said they are looking forward to working with the new representatives to make the upcoming Fourth Of July, 2008 competition the biggest ever. The last tournament attracted 143 teams from 17 countries and territories. Several blue marlin were caught, but only one exceeded 600 pounds. That was a 728 lb blue caught by winning angler Vince Cann aboard the Queen Of Hearts in Bermuda.
