Registration fee is $3000 which covers all anglers on the boat. There is also an additional optional $5000 "Big Blue Challenge" for those wishing to fish for higher stakes.
Anglers can register on line with a credit card at www.bluemarlinworldcup.com. During the day on July 4, the World Cup web site will post real time updates on the leading marlin. Each team will fish from 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM in their time zone. Catch reports will be called in to World Cup headquarters in Ft Lauderdale, Florida. The tournament phone number is (954) 561-9116. Several lines will be open. Reports can also be sent directly via email to m7oceans@aol.com.
Complete rules are on the World Cup web site including a list of approved fishing lines. Also, in addition to an application form, a list of all past World Cup winners and location of catchs are detailed.
This year, Black Bart Lures (www.blackbartlures.com), the official lure of the World Cup, has created an exciting 25th anniversary tee shirt. The tees are illustrated and available on either the Black Bart or World Cup web sites. They are pocketed and available in both long or short sleeves.
So far, teams have registered to fish the World Cup from Australia, Cameroon, Madeira (Portugal), Canary Islands, Cape Verde Islands, Azores, Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Kona, Hawaii. More teams are expected from the Bahamas, Angola, Mexico, US Atlantic waters, and perhaps some from the South Pacific islands.
In 2008, the World Cup had 133 registered teams from around the world. According to Tournament Director, Mike Leech, registrations are running ahead of last year.
