Winning
catch of Blue Marlin World Cup 2005
was a 712-pound marlin caught off Bermuda!
The Bermuda-based boat Sea Scorpion brought
in the winning catch - a 712-pound blue marlin - in
the 21st annual World Cup, July 4th, 2005. Geoffrey
Redmond of Bermuda was in the fighting chair and made
the winning catch. The Sea Scorpion had been in the
World Cup five times and this was their first blue marlin
catch. The 712-pound blue marlin struck a mold Craft
Soft Head lure which was purple and pink. Geoffrey Redmond
said it was the first time he has caught a blue marlin.
This was the third consecutive year that Bermuda has
registered the World Cup winner. The winning World Cup
catch was made three times in Madeira; 1995, 1996 and
1997. The winning catch has been made five times in
Hawaii, but not consecutively. Gary Hines, official
representative for the Blue Marlin World Cup in Bermuda,
said the winning catch measured 116 1/2 inches in length
(short measurement) and had a 67-inch girth.
